One Article I Wrote Accidentally Made 54.3x More in Amazon Associates Earnings Than It Did in Medium Partner Program Earnings in the Last 30 Days…
This seems like a pretty simple way to make some side money. The results after just trying and forgetting about it over the last 30 days are actually pretty cool.
I just happened to have an Amazon associates account I signed up for a long time ago, and never did anything with. Creating the account was initially one of those ideas I would have had back when I was a starry eyed, broke college student.
The only difference was that it had been ten years post college, and I was only slightly less broke. Those starry eyes hadn’t been dimmed yet, though.
Anyway, something really cool happened. That article has only had about 500ish views but it has my highest read through rate of about 85% — not the best to Medium pros but hey I’m still just getting started and haven’t managed to be consistent so I’m happy with that.
Here’s the thing. Somehow, this short two minute article that made 0.14 cents on the Medium Partnership Program in the last 30 days also netted me $7.60 on Amazon associates.
Well — I shouldn’t say somehow, it’s not magic. It just feels like magic.
Someone clicked the link and ended up liking the product enough to purchase it. I got a little piece for sharing it with them and helping to create the sale.
And here’s the icing on the cake in this very new venture and internet experiment I’m now self-proclaiming to be running on Medium — it only took 4 clicks with a 50% click-through-rate.
I’m not an internet marketing guru but those are pretty good numbers for such little traffic in my opinion.
I just wanted to geek out about it and see if anyone here had any input on this for me — I’m definitely not going to start spamming links everywhere because that’s annoying AF and I’m not trying to make a living doing this. I just think it’s cool I can share things I’ve actually vetted, used, come to love or admire, and get a couple bucks for doing it.
Excitement added to a Monday afternoon, at the very least.
If there’s any Amazon Associates pros out there that want to share some tips on scaling this type of thing just give me a shout. Or if you’re a newbie, and you’d like to learn how to set this up for yourself — I (as a slightly less new, newbie) would be happy to show you how.
